Senior Research Scientist Oct. 2009 – present
My primary work focuses on the mechanical design, testing, and management of the AIRIS-WAD (Adaptive InfraRed Imaging Spectroradiometer Wide-Area Detector) project. This is a direct imaging LWIR sensor that provides real-time passive standoff detections of chemical and biological warfare agents. We have demonstrated a working AIRIS-WAD prototype at numerous field tests, and currently are partnering with Smiths Detection to further develop the sensor hardware and software for military application in the DoD’s Early Warning System.

ï€ Main project studied the birefringent effects of stretched polymers
SELECTED RESEARCH AND DESIGN PROJECTS
• Spring 2009: Developed a System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) through the year 2030 that detailed how AIRIS technology must be developed in order to achieve mass-production as a military item
• Winter 2008: Organized regularly-scheduled, hour-long research meetings at Physical Sciences for both scientists and non-scientists
• Fall 2008: Performed an ANOVA statistical analysis to analyze and model online bidding behavior on hundreds of auctions
• Spring 2008: Performed an in-depth performance and cost analysis of a fusion reactor to better understand this technology’s future in the energy industry
• Fall 2007: Redesigned and created a business plan for an improved insulin pump
• Fall 2006: Researched the viability of nuclear waste dumping at Yucca Mountain
• Winter 2005: Developed a basic mountain bike design after performing and analyzing tension tests on various materials
• Fall, 2004: Studied the effects of LN2 on the harmonics of various types of guitar strings
• Spring 2004: Studied the elastic bending moduli and area stretch moduli of large, unilamellar polar-lipid vesicles using micropipette pressurization
