I would like to work with developers focused on the generation of renewable energy (especially solar and wind) on evaluating, negotiating and implementing projects. Such work would involve complex multivariate forecasting, the construction of cash flow projections, due diligence on potential partners, contractors and licensors and the calculation of the levels of market, technology and operational risks. In addition, I would like to gain experience writing responses to requests for proposals, managing multi-stage negotiations with several parties and taking a leadership role within a team responsible for the project’s implementation. Ideal companies would be multinational players, such as Iberdrola Renewables, Centrica and EDP Renewables, that are responsible for a variety of transactions (including the securing of the real estate, sourcing technologies, advising government agencies on bond issuances). However, I’m also looking at smaller technology firms and tracking government developments such as the National Infrastructure Bank. Given the size of the economic stimulus and its focus on renewable energy generation, I would imagine that these firms would be very busy in the next few years. In the longer term, I would look to leverage my experience to bring deals to emerging and frontier markets, perhaps in partnership with multilateral development agencies such as the World Bank.
