Special Effects Manager responsible for the design, construction and operation of a temporary a structure to contain and support 1.5 million gallons of water 50 feet in the air for a major flood sequence in the movie..
• Designed, modified and constructed a 2,000,000 gallon receiving tank 500’ away from dump tank for use as a containment vessel for the movie set.
• Developed hydraulically operated gates to dump 1,500,000 gallons of water in 1 minute.
• Created and enforced a safe working shop for 150 employees including having machinery working areas, walking areas, and layout areas conforming to CALOSHA standards.
• Designed PPE facilities that supported multiple work environments including, high scaffolding, and water safety in and around the tanks, crane and lifting safety training, confined space for interior pipe welding, and developed safety protocols for utilizing explosives in confined areas with personal nearby.
• Directed the events and enforced rigid safety programs designed to protect staff during shoots that not only produced tidal waves of 1.5 million gallons, but also included flying debris created by explosives and other special effects. The safety programs included wave deterrents to life jackets in case of people washing away, PPE for body protection to emergency evacuation in case of earthquake or mechanical disasters... All programs were closely observed by the studios and the city of Los Angles.

Special Effects Manager responsible for the design, construction and operation of the largest floating city in the world. Responsibilities included:
• Engineered, designed and constructed the “floating city†used in the movie.
• Designed and developed the worlds largest rotating anchor system, allowing the floating city to be rotated to specific directions each day..
• Designed and assembled state-of-the-art shop facilities for 300 workers needed to support this movie project. All equipment and facilities achieved OSHA standards. This included welding and fabrication facilities, wood shop facilities, and plastic fabrication facilities at the harbor staging area for the movie.
• Set up and maintained First Aid and emergency services facilities on every section of the 5 custom barges, each section equal in size to 4 football fields.
• Developed specialized Diving programs which included work boat safety programs for personal on work boats and six man diving work teams.
• Developed specialized Pollution control procedures consisting of methods for handling products in and around the water to prevent oils, plastics and metals from entering or mixing with surrounding waters. Methods were designed and placed in constant readiness in case of spills or events which might harm the surrounding waters.

“The Hong Kong Spectacularâ€, World Event,

• Design, engineer, and construct the floating centerpiece in Hong Kong harbor celebrating the return of the city “Hong Kong†from British to Chinese rule.
• This “PEARL OF THE ORIENT†centerpiece required two barges to be joined together, an octagonal tower 80’ diameter x 120’ tall designed and assembled on site.
• A 100’ diameter ball was engineered, constructed and installed on the tower after the barge arrival in Hong Kong Harbor utilizing a dry dock crane.
• Engineering within the tower required it to contain three 40’ generators to power laser shows, light shows and 22/ 3,000 GPM computer controlled water fountains.
• Design, engineering and construction all the above components with the local labor and facilities in the technology deprived country of China. This was a rare opportunity to participate on a world history event.
Special Effects Manager /Design Engineer and Construction Manager –
“The Perfect Storm†Movie, Warner Brothers Studios
• Engineered, designed and constructed a 40’ x 80’ hydraulic gimble, utilized to rock and tilt an authentic 80’ x 20 ton fishing trawler on stage.
• Developed an accumulator system motivating the four 10†x 60†hydraulic cylinders to extend and retract 18†in 1 second repetitively.
• Maintain the safety of 60 crew members on the trawler while rocking the trawler during the filming operations in the simulated stormy high North Atlantic seas.
