• Built Pulse Laser Deposition (PLD) System with Excimer Laser and High Vacuum Chamber, to generate novel coatings which can promote two-steps intrinsic protective oxide films for the control of carbon-induced corrosion in high temperature metal dusting environment.
Corning, Inc., Corning, NY November 2007 – October 2008
Research Engineer - Manufacturing Technology & Engineering:
• Parametric study of orientation effects of microcracks and micropores on porous ceramics for its material properties in Corning's ceramic honeycomb products.
• Improved sputtering method of Corning’s OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) encapsulation hermetic layer material, by investigating its thermal & mechanical properties and studying failure mechanism.
• Successfully built the models of rolling, bending and hail test for Photovoltaic Barrier, as solar panel protection layer,

Visiting Scientist - Institute of Materials Research:
• Successfully discovered mechanism of cracking and delaminations in EBPVD Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) using experimental results with systematic variations on high temperature heat treatment history and incremental indentation loading pressure on TBCs.
• Operated and maintained Thermal-Gradient-Mechanical-Fatigue (TGMF) testing system for study failure and fatigue of TBCs .

Computational Mechanics Research Assistant - Laboratory of Experimental and Computational Mechanics of Materials and Structures (June 2004 – August 2007):
• Investigated fracture mechanics of EBPVD Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs, multilayered structure applied on gas turbine blades), with its associated evolution of microstructure and properties upon thermal cycle, for failure and fatigue, degradation, cracking and spallation, lifetime assessment and fracture patterns. ( 3 journal papers)
• Developed of several unique indentation techniques for determining fracture toughness, residual stress and work-hardening exponent of various materials. ( 5 journal papers)
Robotics and Control Research Assistant - Mechanical Systems Laboratory (September 2001 – June 2004):
• Built a 4-expanding-wheel vehicle of 2×3m, developed kinematics and dynamics models, designed trajectory and feedback controllers, successfully tested and optimized control functions in real time with MATLAB Simulink models on dSPACE 1103 system.
Beijing Aerospace City, Beijing, China October 1996 – December 1998
Intern - Aerospace Engineering:
• Participated in designing, building, testing and debugging of gas-nitrogen heating(-100~+100℃) and helium cooling-vacuum (-257℃ and 4.5×10-6Pa) systems for the largest Chinese Space Environment Simulator (3200m3) used for testing satellites and space shuttle. Operations of all systems have been reliably since 1998.

Intern - Aerospace Engineering:
• Tested undercarriage at ultra-low temperature (-80oC) using a liquid-nitrogen cooling system.
• Studied aircraft final assembly, wind tunnel testing, manufacture of Boeing 757 cargo doors.

Research Assistant:
• Built a prototype of New Controlled Rotary Vane Compressor (1 m3/min, 0.6 MPa). Completed AutoCAD and Matlab simulation, and successfully tested its working condition.
