Start my career in the Nuclear Power industry eventually leading to work as either a reactor operator or core design.
STEPHAN R. BURTSCHI
Nuclear Engineer, Recent Graduate
New graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering; Engineer in Training certified. Strong understanding of diffusion theory, probabilistic risk assessment and heat transfer. Experience using laboratory processes and equipment for monitoring and analysis of several parameters. Leadership experience as a member of the executive board of a fraternity. Experiencing using C, UNIX, MATLAB and SRIM/TRIM code.
Professional Experience
CENTER FOR PLASMA MATERIAL INTERACTIONS – URBANA, IL 2008 to 2009
Undergraduate Research Assistant
 Collected hundreds of data points from multimeters, a thermocouple, an oscilloscope and a computer based pressure monitoring system. Transferred the collected data to an Excel spreadsheet for future analysis and manipulation. Saved oscilloscope screen shots displaying instantaneous voltage change at the time of breakdown.
 Coordinated with the Division of Research Safety to remove chemical waste from the lab. Classified a dozen unknown chemicals according to pH, color, and state of matter. Acquired appropriate transport containers for each chemical based on recommendations from DRS.
 Relocated the vacuum chamber used for the experiment. Disassembled and later reassembled a complex electro-mechanical system that included a rotary vane vacuum pump, a turbomolecular pump, an argon injection tank, a resistor-capacitor circuit, several gauges and a desktop computer.
 Analyzed microscopic surface roughness of the electrodes. Used a profilometer and a scanning electron microscope to determine roughness before and after the experiment.
 Prepared hundreds of copper and aluminum electrodes by mechanically sanding and electro-polishing. Created threaded holes for mounting in the chamber by using a lathe.
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS ASSEMBLY HALL – CHAMPAIGN, IL 2005 to 2009
Usher (2005 to 2007)
Usher Supervisor (2007 to 2009)
 Directed customers to their destinations within a 16,000 seat arena during U of I men’s and women’s basketball games, concerts, and Broadway style shows. Solved seating conflicts that arose from misinterpreting tickets. Provided chairs and space for handicapped patrons in the accessible seating area.
 Promoted to supervisor based on recommendations from previous supervisors. Used a handheld radio to report concession spills and medical emergencies to other Assembly Hall personnel. Supervised the performance of up to 26 members of the usher staff during events.
THE WHARF BAR AND GRILL– DECATUR, IL 2009 to Present
Kitchen Staff
 Communicated with the wait staff and other members of the kitchen staff to accurately determine specifications of a customer’s order.
 Cooked each order quickly and accurately to meet the customer’s needs.
