PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Babcock Power (Riley Power), Worcester, MA 2007 to 2009
Senior Staff Engineer
The company supplies new and replacement boiler equipment, low NOx burners, and fuel handling systems.
• Lead engineer for proposal preparation.
• Product Champion for extended surface heat exchanger product. The units produced a greater heat recovery with a smaller size on several dirty combustion processes.
• Proposal Engineer for the largest replacement order in Riley Power Corporation history – Hoosier Energy superheater and reheater headers.
Vesuvius USA, Moon Township, PA 2002 to 2007
Senior Project Engineer
The company produced various types of industrial insulations and refractories (monolithic, brick, ceramic fiber) for worldwide installation.
• Provided technical support on over four thousand products to sales staff in the Industrial Products, Hydrocarbon Processing, and Steel Finishing divisions.
• Lead Design Engineer for WearGuard bearing systems used on rolls for steel galvanizing and glass lines worldwide.
Process Combustion Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA 1993 to 2001
Senior Applications Engineer
The company produced specialty industrial thermal oxidizers destroying gaseous and/or liquid wastes for environmental regulatory compliance; direct and indirect fired air heaters, and custom engineered burners and combustion control systems.
• Instrumental in increasing the company’s annual sales from $4 MM in 1992 to $25 MM in 1997.
• Succeeded in closing the highest number of individual system sales corporation-wide (15) in a single fiscal year. Replacement for a John Zink two-stage thermal oxidizer system which treats off gases from an acrylonitrile process for $3 MM. The original became obsolete due to both a process change and a change in BACT NOx emission requirements. Concept-to-demolition-to-start up of this ten-story high unit was accomplished in one year. Co-authored a technical paper describing the featured ammonia injection system used for post-combustion NOx control.
• Developed and fostered a multiple thermal oxidizer system sales relationship with a corporation pioneering a method to reduce radiation soil pollution.
• Designed and sold the two largest thermal oxidizers in tobacco processing industry history to Brown & Williamson.
American Schack Company, Wexford, PA 1981 to 1992
Manager of Marketing and Development
The company (presently known as ALSTOM Power Energy Recovery) produced custom made, industrial high temperature and/or high-pressure heat exchangers, waste heat boilers, and fired heaters for service in various dirty, erosive, and corrosive environments.
• Instrumental in increasing the company’s annual sales from $3 MM in 1981 to $18 MM in 1992.
• Developed, designed, and delivered all product lines from inquiry to start-up.
• Designed and sold a four boiler system for municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration to Delaware Solid Waste Authority for $2.5 MM in 1985. The operational 600 ton per day plant was the featured tour of the 1988 ASME Solid Waste Division annual meeting. Authored an article on the unique design, published nationally in Solid Waste and Power Magazine.
• Designed and sold five fluidized bed boiler systems operating on various coal based waste fuels to GWF Power Systems (an Allied-Signal Company) for individual sites in the San Francisco Bay Area for $15 MM -- Power Magazine’s 1990 Independent Power Plant Award winner.
