Nuclear Plant Engineer. Learned advanced theoretical concepts of nuclear power plant operations at Naval Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC. One of four civilian supervisors in a crew of forty enlisted Navy staff members responsible for the operation and maintenance of a land based nuclear submarine. Qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW), who is responsible for supervising, coordinating, approving, and accomplishing all operations, maintenance, and tests on the plant. Qualified as a staff instructor to train Naval sailors on the operational and theoretical aspects of a Pressurized Water Reactor plant. Responsible for interfacing with various organizations to complete preventive and corrective maintenance. Qualified to operate and train on the plant’s simulator. Qualified as a supervisor on the Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS). Nuclear Power Plant/HVAC Intern. Performed system inspections and performance centered maintenance (PCM) equipment reviews to identify equipment problems and ensure reliable equipment operation. Reviewed HVAC control logic diagrams to determine impact on system surveillance testing. Inspected degraded ductwork and assisted Engineering in providing repair recommendation. Troubleshot HVAC system operation to determine cause of control system imbalance. Aided in research for diesel generator overhaul maintenance optimization program. Assisted Security Engineering in evaluating vulnerabilities to vehicle bomb attack and performed equipment failure analysis of security doors. Student. Spent a week in Waslala, Nicaragua designing and building water distribution systems for villages as a part of the Water for Waslala project. The work completed was part of my senior design project, which created an automated chlorination device for the water sources in Waslala. Completed two 5-month design projects. The first created a new product and employed the design process. The second project created a Lego robot that could navigate a maze and retrieve a dowel rod. Both projects incorporated technical, as well as, interpersonal skills of teamwork, communication, and oral presentation. Experience with AutoCAD 2002, MathCAD, Matlab, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.

Industrial Hygienist/Air Technician. Responsible for the supervision of asbestos contractors and documentation of activities during the removal process. Ensured that the contractors followed Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Collected air samples during removal to monitor asbestos levels. Conducted clearance samples and interpreted results to certify that all asbestos had been removed, and air was not contaminated.
