TOPIC OF RESEARCH: Optimisation of the growth of marine microalgae in outdoor tanks in the UK.
Laboratory techniques involve: Isolation, characterisation, propagation and maintenance of pure cultures. Identification of algal and bacterial species using DNA isolation kit, composite PCR analysis, periodic measurement of ash free dry weight, fatty acid analysis, gas chromatography.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
IT: Can work well on Microsoft packages on Windows Vista/XP platform and standard office software packages including the Microsoft Office suite, Minitab (statistical software) and OpenProj (project planning and management software).
INTERSTS:
• I like to plan and design things just as a hobby. One of my recent designs include a bag made out of a pair of jeans!
• I like gymnastics and have joined the gymnastics club in Newcastle University.
• I love hiking and recently did the Great Glen Way in Scotland.
