Most of my practical experience has been in Alternative Energy and Uninterruptible Power Systems. I wold like to share my experience and find a future with a second company that could put it to use.
PROFILE
I am probably one of the original “techno-geeksâ€. Most of my life was spent wondering how things work and how
to make them work better. I was always very interested in solar and wind systems. I love to experiment! I make
friends very easily and keep them. Battery systems are fascinating to me. I have designed very small and very
large Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) for many large and small companies. I love a challenge! My health
is excellent! And please don’t consider me “overqualified†in any way. I still consider a handshake as good as a
contract!
EDUCATION
Fullerton City College, Cal State Fullerton, Fullerton, CA 1972-1980
I Graduated from Cal State Fullerton with multi majors in History, Ceramic Engineering, Geology and Kiln Design.
I worked with Philip Rothman, Paul Soldner, Joe Soldate, Bruce McDougal and others. My thesis was
spent building many types of kilns from Salt Kilns, Raku Kilns, Walk-in Rail Kilns and standard High Fire pottery
kilns. I designed special burners for each type of kiln for increased efficiency. I set up workshops on the
beaches and in the dessert (Borax, NV) so students could find chemicals in nature to color and build Raku
pieces in temporary kilns they built on site.
EXPERIENCE
Pottery at Stoneware Pottery Company in Sierra Madre, CA — 1975-1980
I worked with the owner and we received orders at the “Mart†in Los Angeles. It took approximately 6 months
for a cycle. We made high fire (2,200°F), hand thrown stoneware dinner sets, mug sets, platters, pitchers,
plates, etc. Our clients were Broadway Stores, Macy’s, and a few other high end stores.
I also operated a company called Ground Hog Pottery Company to make extra money for college. I built a rail
kiln and a salt kiln in my back yard to fire special orders.
I won many prizes for design competitions including entry and acceptance in the very prestigious Bampf, Canada,
World Ceramics Exhibition. I also received awards for my work in gold, silver and precious gems.
OWNER, CHIEF DESIGN ENGINEER, AEROPOWER MILLS IN SANTA CRUZ, CA — 1980-1986
I was contacted by a small company from Berkeley named AeroPower. They had some good ideas on building
1,500 watt wind powered gensets for rural and suburban applications. They had designed a power plant from an
industrial type automotive alternator and had the beginnings of a self feathering prop that had a very high failure
rate. I determined that the problem was the feathering hub. The spring channel would not hold the vertical pressure
the props required. I designed stainless steel inserts to fix the problem.
We installed our AeroPower gensets in the City of Concord, CA, on farms in Watsonville, CA, in Alaska for a Jeff
King, 5 time winner of the Ididarod race, at my own ranch of course and many other places. My “Self Feathering
Hub†was patented.
OWNER AND SYSTEMS ENGINEER FOR NITE & DAY POWER IN SANTA CRUZ — 1984-1992
Small windmills were becoming less popular as cities began to consider liabilities. So I started a new company
to concentrate on solar systems. I worked closely with a new company called “Best Power†in Necedah, Wis. I
worked with Terry Paul, Steve Paul and Margurite Paul, the founders of the company, to develop small inverters
for 12, 24, 48, and 120 volt DC systems. By 1988 the Inverters were well designed with a modified step wave,
suitable for powering the new PC’s - Lisa and the 7/7 Software Suite - that were being sold by Apple Computer.
They put my system in an ad in the centerfold of the April, 1985 issue of Macworld Magazine.

GARY M. INGRAM
BIG CREEK LUMBER CO. 1978 - 1986
I also needed extra support to support my
habit of new technologies. My good friends,
the McCrary’s were kind enough to put me to
work at their lumber mill in Davenport. In the
time I was there, I did everything from pull
the “green chainâ€, to driving giant forklifts, to
driving little forklifts in the plywood warehouse,
to managing the retail store. It was
one of the best jobs I ever had simply because
the McCrary’s were some of the nicest
folks I ever knew.
OWNER, CEO, NITE & DAY POWER
TECHNOLOGIES, INC. — 1990-2008
When the tax credits and cash refunds
stopped coming from the State of California,
the solar and wind systems business also
came to a halt. It became too expensive to
live the dream. So I went back to Best
Power and found that they had been working
on a Ferroresonnant UPS system that was
nearly 98% efficient. I worked with them for
over a year to build a reliable system that
could go from pass through, clean power to
battery power with no gap. I got the first prototype
installed at Big Creek Lumber Company
in Davenport, CA. Frank and Homer,
owners of Big Creek Lumber Co., agreed to
try the new Ferrupsˇ for their new computer
inventory system. Needless to say, the first
prototype had problems. After nearly a year
we had worked it into a finished product. So
the next Ferrupsˇ went into Wells Fargo Bank
in San Jose. At this point (2009), Wells Fargo has 18 Ferrupsˇ of different ages installed. They have been very
satisfied with the Ferrupsˇ.
I also designed a system for a top secret project at Livermore Labs. I had top level government security clearance
for this project, working at their linear accelerator in Tracy.
