Workstage LLC January 2006 to July 2009
Site Superintendent
Grand Rapids, MI
Workstage, a construction management, design/build, and development company specialized in LEED-certified projects incorporating raised access floor panels that housed the primary MEP, voice and data, and building management systems.
As Site Superintendent, directly managed all on-site construction activity, from site set-up and mobilization, through final inspections, punch list, and owner occupancy. Specifically, responsible for site safety; for contractor compliance to construction documents and building codes; for project scheduling and site logistics; for the coordination of all site work and inspections; for managing Workstage field personnel; for tracking submittals and requests for information; and for on-site client contact.
I also worked closely with the project management team during the pre- and post-bid process evaluating, qualifying, and interviewing potential contractors, and conducted scope, site development, and constructability reviews of plans and construction documents.
2008--2009: Supervised a 170,000 sq. ft., $40 million office/call center facility for Automatic Data Processing in Augusta, GA. Able to accommodate 1,100 employees, the facility features under-floor power and air handling, full service kitchen and cafeteria, and has qualified for LEED Gold certification.
2007-2008: Lead Superintendent on a $100 million, 1.3 million sq. ft., 67-acre mall renovation project in San Antonio, TX. One of the largest ever of its kind in the U.S., the LEED reclamation project involved the conversion of the vacant Windsor Park Mall into the new corporate headquarters for Rackspace Managed Hosting. Prior to fit-out, directly managed and coordinated the de-commissioning of the facility and the subsequent demolition of the entire interior space, which also required sequencing and managing asbestos containment, abatement, and mold remediation operations.
2006-2007: Supervised the construction of Metro B Building, a radiology and vascular outpatient facility built as part of Metro Health's new hospital bed-tower campus in Grand Rapids, MI. Also a LEED project, Metro B housed the hospital's public kitchen and cafeteria, and featured a 47,500 sq. ft. green roof, which was the second-largest in Michigan when it was completed in summer 2007.
Fiskars Construction September 1995 to 2005
Superintendent
St. Joseph, MI
Fiskars is a general contracting firm with whom I helped build and manage a number of diverse projects ranging from medical, university and commercial facilities, to industrial, manufacturing, assembly, warehouse and freezer storage facilities.
As Site Superintendent, site management responsibilities were like those at Workstage LLC. Also had primary responsibility for project lay-out and elevation control, quality assurance, and for the management of Fiskars construction personnel.
2003: Supervised the construction of The Howard Performing Arts Center at Andrews University in Berrien
Springs, MI. Built exclusively for live musical performances, the facility exceeded its acoustical design criteria.
It houses an 800-seat auditorium, as well as support facilities for the university's School of Music and radio station.
2002: Supervised the construction of the fixed-MRI facility at Lakeland Regional Hospital in St. Joseph, MI. The 3-story addition also enlarged the hospital's radiology and pathology facilities.
2001: Supervised the construction of Seminary Hall at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI. Completed in 12 months, the 80,000 sq. ft. project included the new construction of a 3-story, 35,000 sq. ft. addition housing classrooms, offices and a student commons, and the renovation of the existing 45,000 sq. ft. seminary building and chapel. The success of this project led directly to being chosen by the University to build the focal point of
its campus, The Howard Performing Arts Center.
