John Sturman is a Chartered Marine Scientist and renewable energy expert who has worked for over 15 years in renewable energy and environmental science, in both academic and commercial sectors. He has undertaken high profile renewable energy consultancy work for national and regional governments including Hong Kong SAR and the Scottish Parliament as well as leading companies in the renewable energy industrial sector.
In an academic role he has lectured on sustainability and renewable energy policy and planning from local to global scales. He has also given presentations to leading politicians and business leaders on renewable energy issues and market opportunities.
Throughout his career he has undertaken work on resource estimation, environmental impact assessment, technical feasibility, climate change impacts and sustainability, planning applications and advice, due diligence, renewable energy policy and strategy for a broad range of clients.
He is an expert on wind resource assessment and is the creator of WindScan - the best available offshore wind resource assessment tool, utilising multiple satellite sensors.

John has created a strategic alliance with a major European utility to co-develop onshore wind farms in the UK. He established himself on the Board of the Friends of the SuperGrid. He has won significant consultancy work for major wind farm developments in Europe, North Africa, Middle East and North America. He contributes to strategic renewables business development for the company and has recently been appointed PB’s Offshore Coordinator, leading a cross departmental team looking at strategic opportunities for both PB and Balfour Beatty. He provides expertise on; Energy Yield Assessments of onshore and offshore wind farms, undertakes landowner negotiations for multiple wind farm developments, project manages wind farm developments and is the lead consultant on solar and offshore wind solutions for a offshore energy island infrastructure development.
