PAD Designs, Winthrop, MA (1996-current) PADdesigns.net
Principal, Architectural/ Engineering Sustainability Consultant
PAD Designs specializes in Green Laboratory and Hospital projects.
Highlighted projects include:
Princeton University Chemistry Building with Payette Associate / Hopkins Architects and Arup Engineers (Princeton, NJ). This project was a 270,000s.f. building with a 75KW PV array, FanWall Technology AHU’s with heat pipes for energy recovery, recycling office & atrium air through lab hoods and rain water reuse. Collaborated with BIM / NovisWorks & field coordination at the owner’s request.
Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Research Headquarters with The Stubbins Associates and BR+A Consulting Engineers (Cambridge, MA). This project was a 210,000s.f. renovation in the historic NECCO Building with a tight structure schedule and move date requiring modular systems that could be field fitted to the custom needs of the researchers. Run around glycol loops for heat recovery, multiple atrium smoke exhaust fans and five NMR’s and specialty labs required direct communication with the CM, John Moriarty Associates which led to a number of projects with MEP coordination.
16 Laboratories, 2 hospitals and 4 retirement complexes plus a number of LEED college buildings with Perkins & Will Associates, Koetter / Kim Associates, and DiMella / Shaffer Associates (Boston, MA). Successfully integrated sustainable concepts from site, passive solar orientation to innovative concealed service locations using High Performance Building Design (HPBD-P) process to select energy and cost effective solutions for the long term needs of clients.
Green Pod, LLC., Harpswell, ME (2005-current)
Founder and Designer
Green Pod, LLC, designs and produces innovative Carbon Neutral Housing Systems. The company leverages state of the art solar technologies and patented a Structurally Integrated Insulated Panel to build customized, stand-alone pre-engineered homes. These housing systems offer several advantages over conventional building practices. The housing systems are shipped folded and can open up over the foundation. This minimizes on site construction to days, not months. Designed for the mass production of affordable, low-impact residences in mind.
Prior work experience ranges from Draftsman to Project Manager in architectural and engineering firms, working with notable architects.
Highlighted projects include:
Hospitals, Laboratories, University projects and active solar houses with Rafael Moneo, Bergmeyer Associates, Payette Associates, WBRC A/E and Kallmann, McKinnell & Wood (MA and ME).
Technical & Exterior Detailing / MEP Coordination for John Hopkins Hospital and Ambulatory Care Building (Baltimore, MD). This project was a 720,000s.f. outpatient facility and research center. Redesigned the systems to allow requirements through octagonal pod areas which resulted in avoiding outpatient rooms and labs.
Coordinated projects for MEP Engineers with R. G. Vanderweil Engineers, BR+A Consulting Engineers, and Environmental Design Engineers (Boston, MA). Designed creative architectural solutions which simplified and reduced energy losses of distribution and geothermal heat pumps.
