PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Lorton Arts Foundation / Workhouse Arts Center – Lorton, VA March–December 2008
A foundation created to convert the 55-acre historic Lorton Prison into the Workhouse Art Center, providing visual and performing arts studio and exhibition space, arts education programs, and a home for more than 150 professional and emerging artists.
Senior Facilities Associate
Acted as owner’s representative during final renovation of the facility, which is now open. Developed the scope of work for the facility support contracts, solicited bids, reviewed submittals, and recommended selections to the senior staff. Served as the primary liaison between vendors and contractors for physical construction and electronic systems installation, security, custodial services, landscaping, and waste management.
• Utilized engineering and construction-management skills to identify and secure remediation of operational and warranty issues.
• Worked closely with staff and tenants to determine facility needs and expectations; trained facility staff in resolution of problems unique to the Workhouse.

As a civilian with the USAFR, represented the unit from pre-construction through final construction on a variety of projects, functioning essentially as Owner’s Representative, Construction/Design Project Manager, Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative, and Facilities Manager.
• Coordinated all design, construction, and maintenance work for 22 DoD facilities on a historically significant base.
• Managed three renovation and reuse projects with a total construction cost of $5.6 million.
• Programmed eight facility upgrades, four to support a model conversion for air-refueling planes and four to upgrade facilities to meet current anti-terrorism and force-protection standards.
• Procured funding and worked with the installation host on the design of three joint services projects with total estimated construction cost of $25.8 million; served on the Source Selection Committees for these projects.
• Supervised the in-house design and construction of two slate-roof replacement projects on buildings of historic value; total construction cost was $800k. By utilizing in-house design expertise, saved the unit $150k in design costs.
• Provided technical expertise to the base contracting office to evaluate contractors’ bids, submittals and requests for information. Conducted 35%, 65% and 95% bid ability, constructability, and operability review of design documents.
• Worked with owners, architects, interior designers, contractors and furniture installers, coordinating the design and installation of interior build-outs and oversight of furniture installation and personnel and equipment relocation.
