Relevant Experience
Research assistant at University of Massachusetts Amherst 8/2008-present
Project: Two-stage Groundwater Filtration for Control of Manganese and DBPs
Completed existing program modeling manganese removal across the post-contactor column. Designed and maintained two-stage filter pilot system which achieves an excellent manganese removal while reduces ~80% of DBP production. Familiar with EPA drinking water rules.
Project: Removal of Trace Contaminants from Waste Ion Exchange Brine.
Performed measurement using ICP-MS instrument (Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) to investigate the removal of trace contaminants like arsenic, selenium, cadmium, chromium and copper in high ionic strength waste ion exchange brine (10 to 12% by weight NaCl) after coagulation with iron salts. Assisted in conducting bench-scale jar test.
Summer internship in Schlumberger company 5/2007- 7/2007
Summary: studied the technical process of section D&M (Drilling and Measurements).
Research assistant at Institute for Environment Science and Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam 11/2006-5/2007
Summary: investigated and optimized coagulation/flocculation process in treating textile wastewater.
Skills
Language: Vietnamese, fluent. Computer skills: AutoCAD, MATLAB, Pascal, Biowin, MineQL+ 4.6, Sigma Plot 11.0, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Environmental instruments and methods: ICP-MS, Ion chromatography (IC) and disinfection by-product and total organic carbon measurement.
Other Experiences
Soccer team captain: led five-player team to win the soccer tournament for graduate student in 2009 and came second in 2010. Class monitor: Acted as a liaison between instructors and students. Organized extra-curricular class activities for students.
