Plant Engineering & Maintenance Superintendent: March 1984- Jan 2000: Responsible for all plant equipment, mobile equipment, and facility maintenance. Capital budget management. Designed and supervised various capital projects from conception through completion including building construction, equipment layout, fabrication, assembly techniques, contract bids, material specifications, scheduling of contractors and multiple in house trades. A partial list of past capital projects includes steel and concrete buildings, aluminum smelting furnaces, aluminum shredding and drying equipment, electrical power distribution, chlorine vaporization with process controls and safety management. As T.P.M. leader, developed maintenance systems to prevent and predict failures. Instituted maintenance through the use of manual and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. Equipment experience includes but not limited to arc, induction, and gas fired melting furnaces, boilers, in plant and over-the-road mobile; pneumatic, steel and rubber belt conveyors, hydraulic systems and all facets of facilities maintenance. Directly provided for the leadership, training, and motivation of salaried, hourly skilled and unskilled personnel. Procured required equipment permits to meet city, state and federal EPA regulations. Developed guidelines to adhere to OSHA safety requirements in plant policy and equipment condition. HAZWOPER trained, emergency response coordinator, SCBA certified, CPR. Reported to Plant Manager.
Production Superintendent (Dual responsibility): 1987-1988
Responsible for all melt shop production requirements to meet customer alloy specifications and delivery times. Planned, directed, and controlled shift supervisors in conjunction with bargaining unit personnel to manufacture aluminum casting and de-oxidizing alloys in an effective and efficient manner to provide customers with JIT molten metal deliveries.
