I have an extensive background in residential remodeling, new construction, and some commercial work.
I have worked in this field for the past 25 years, during which, I have designed and built two single-family homes, constructed two prefabricated homes, and designed and built
many additions. I specialize in kitchen and bath remodeling.
I have a strong working knowledge of structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire building codes.
I am
familiar with lead and asbestos identification, abatement, and/or encapsulation. I held a lead abatement supervisor certification in the early 90\'s and I was involved in several abatement projects throughout Connecticut.
I hold a state of Connecticut Building Code Official License.
Owner operator of a small successful home improvement company. Worked closely with
home owners on design and budget details to meet their remodeling goals. Worked with
building officials on design details to ensure they met state building codes. Prepared
estimates, contracts, and addendums detailing the project start to finish. Hired and
supervised licensed sub-contractors when necessary. Hired and supervised up to six
employees.
Over the years I have worked on most types of residential dwellings and have done several
commercial renovation projects.
Robles & Vassallo, LLC, Owner 2004 - 2005
Partnership in a new home construction company. Build and sold one new home in East
Haddam, CT. Project included clearing of raw land, blasting, and complicated septic system
design. I worked closely with local building officials, health district, and engineers throughout
project. Also constructed three pre-fabricated homes in East Hartford & Meriden CT prior to
dissolving the partnership in December of 2005.
Sterling Construction, Project Manager , 2003
Worked as the estimator and project manager on one project at the Virgin Mary & Archangel
Michael Coptic Orthodox Church for Sterling Construction. The project consisted of
renovations of the existing church and constructing a new Sunday School, Conference room,
Commercial Kitchen Community meeting hall and Lavatories.
Meri-Weather Inc. Construction Estimator, 1992-1996
Reviewed plans and specifications; prepared detailed material tack-offs and submitted bids
for public renovation and lead abatement projects throughout the state of Connecticut.
Typical projects included window and door replacement, siding, and handicap accessibility.
Projects that I bid on and won ranged in size from tens of thousands of dollars to the largest
at 1.5 million.
Upon winning bids, my responsibilities were to outline the phasing of the project, prepare
and estimate the cost of any change orders and /or addendum throughout the life of the
project, and to work with Meri-WeatherÃs project manager to bring the project to completion
on time and within our budget guidelines.
Meri-Weather Inc. Lead Abatement Supervisor, 1993-1996
Worked with and supervised crew on lead abatement projects in multi-family dwellings and
housing complexes throughout Connecticut and some in Massachusetts.
My responsibilities included: Supervision of proper construction of containment areas and
required filtration systems; ensuring that workers wore the proper protective gear at all times
while in containment; ensuring the proper procedures for testing, disposal, and tracking of
contaminated material were followed.
Meri-Weather Inc. Carpentry Instructor Spring of 1994 - Fall of 1994
. Conducted classroom and onsite training program for 12 under-privileged teens. Curriculum
I developed included proper structural framing and the reasoning behind it Program was
funded by a grant from the state of Connecticut to train and place urban teens in the trade.
Five students went on to work successfully in the carpentry trade.
