I am currently seeking a position requiring design/construction experience and management responsibilities in the architectural arena. My outgoing personality coupled with my broad experience in management, construction, planning, design, and architecture offer a unique combination which would benefit a winning organization. I am looking for a professional and challenging position, one which would require “out of the box†thinking. Motivation, dedication, passion, and being real are what you will get from me.

Architect & Entrepreneur
Self Employed – Sept. 2004 to Jan. 1 2007
In Sept. of 2004 I became a stay at home Dad after resigning from my position as University Architect at Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI. At the same time, my wife returned to college full time to earn her Masters Degree in secondary education. My responsibilities as a stay at home Dad included: weekly shopping, cooking, cleaning, taxi-ing, and other responsibilities as assigned or needed in the care, parenting, and supervision of our 6 children and 93 year old mother-in-law. I concurrently spend time volunteering, working with the Big Rapids Historic Preservation Commission and the Mecosta County Recycling Center; and I started a home based Internet marketing business with NuSkin Enterprises, PhotoMax division.
Higher Education Work Experience
Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI (1991 to Sept. 1, 2004)
Position: University Architect
Primary Responsibilities: Overseeing campus planning and design, consultant selection process, capital construction process, project planning, programming and project design.
The position of University Architect is multi-faceted and dynamic; and involves creative thinking, seeing the big picture, building personal relationships (inside and outside the University environment), communication skills, organization, and marketing skills. A great deal of my success as University Architect came from the fact that Ferris State University was looked upon by A/E’s as a very desirable client that provided specific project expectations, thorough program statements, and fundamental planning goals and objectives. At the same time, each A/E was afforded and encouraged to exercise their most creative thinking (creative license) to form unique and appropriate architecture.
From my private practice experience, “good clients†are not that easy to find, and I helped market Ferris State University as one of the best clients in the state of Michigan. Marketing my services within the university environment was equally important; as many university employees are often apprehensive about making changes to their work environment. I addressed this issue by building relationships and trust through good listening, good communications, and then providing a better work environment, thus, building the reputation that the Office of the University Architect was an omen of positive change.
Next, seeing the “big picture†from the seat of the University Architect is, I believe, my strongest skill. I was successful in guiding the formation of a new campus “master plan†that included many visions, some mine, some others. The “Plan†was a flexible guide for the future and was a team creation, but a very important guide for the university.
