Due to economic downturn, the company has
needed to assess its core strengths, as well as
identify and target new markets.
Was recruited based on reputation and prior performance,
to join management team as an active contributor to
company’s direction. Wholly involved in business
development, marketing, client proposals, and project
estimates; as well as procurement, scheduling, project
management, mentoring, and quality control. Prepared,
negotiated, and administered contracts and budgets for
commercial projects of up to $40M. Held full authority for
construction management across several markets,
including senior living, healthcare, retail, manufacturing,
and non-profit.
* Reduced total project costs by as much as 15%,
employing Value Engineering (VE) and Value
Management (VM) techniques.
* Played critical role in transitioning firm towards new
market niches within senior living and healthcare, by
strengthening interviewing and presentation skills for

on Herman Miller’s corporate headquarters office
renovation.

bono basis, for Porter Hills’ Green House senior living
facility. Subsequently awarded and completed project,
with Silver Level LEED certification pending.
* Assisted in CM selection process, participated in
contract negotiations, and subsequently directed the
$28M repositioning of MapleCreek, an existing CCRC
senior living complex.
* Project managed the construction of five new Meijer
stores around Michigan, and the remodeling of four
Meijer stores in northern Indiana; a combined total of
over $60M.
* Improved company’s visibility, name recognition, and
brand by running for, and being elected to the board
of the West Michigan chapter of USGBC.

Dan Vos Construction Co. 1993 – 1999
Ada, MI - West Michigan commercial construction
management, general contracting, and design/build firm that
also provides in-house architectural services.
As a local business, DVCC had a record of
promoting from within and focusing on regional
projects; wanted to expand client base and
revenue stream.
Brought in as the first externally-hired project manager.
Managed various design/build projects encompassing
health care facilities, retail, manufacturing and industrial,
institutional, non-profit, and religious facilities. Fully
involved from concept through pre-construction phases to
project completion; including, but not limited to
budgeting, scheduling, coordination of subcontractors /
specialties, site safety, reporting, and compliance to
OSHA, local, and state regulations.
* Selected due to prior remote, onsite management
experience, to oversee $8M construction of seven
emissions control centers in Indiana, and $3M
Haworth plant addition, in North Carolina.
* Worked closely with vice president to manage Perrigo
Pharmaceutical’s ongoing renovations to both
manufacturing plant and corporate headquarters;
billed at $1M to $2M, monthly.
* Improved efficiencies by computerizing and instituting
additional tools to project management skill set,
companywide.
* Contributed to $100M volume by bringing consultative
approach to client needs.

Milestone Builders, Inc. 1986 – 1993
Anaheim, CA - Small Southern California industrial/
commercial GC and design/build firm, which also provided in-
house architectural services.
Though company was formed during an extremely
favorable economic climate; needed to adjust
business development strategy to ensure
profitability through several market fluctuations
and subsequent downturn.
Co-founded and coordinated all operations of general
contracting firm, which serviced industrial and commercial
client base. Fully accountable for marketing, business
development, relationship management, hiring, training,
budgetary and bidding processes, project management,
and all safety and regulatory issues.
* Attained over $40M design/build volume of
commercial and industrial parks for client base
comprised primarily of speculative developers,
including 1 million sq. ft. of building for Erin-Madison,
Ltd.
* Grew business from $3M to $8M by retooling
company and expanding into the tenant improvement
(TI) construction sector, which minimized risk and
increased profits.
* Computerized operations, reduced workforce by half,
and reduced operating costs over a two-year period,
while increasing or maintaining business volume, each
year.
