Summary of Qualifications:
• Thorough knowledge of all plant and equipment and maintain these in efficient working order by following routine maintenance procedures.
• Adopt a proactive approach by carrying out a regular walk round the hotel and grounds to ensure potential problems are dealt with promptly.
• Carry out short term (reactive) maintenance work e.g. repairs affecting guest bedrooms and services as a matter of urgency but adhering to all safety procedures and causing minimum disruption to guests.
• Ensure that front of house is kept clean and well presented at all times, as per the Brand Maintenance Planner. Knowledge of and operate hotel security and emergency procedures.
• Deal with complaints/problems politely and positively and make every effort to resolve them.
• Liaise daily with all departments and deal appropriately with any maintenance issues raised, giving priority to those issues which compromise Health & Safety or security.
• Liaise productively with contractors and suppliers to ensure the most cost effective outcomes for the business.
• Liaise with contractors to ensure that Permits to Work are completed in compliance with Company Health & Safety procedures. Act as Clerk of Works to regulate work carried out by contractors.
• Carry out work on ad hoc projects using skills and knowledge to ensure the most efficient and effective outcome for the hotel.
• Use, operate and store all tools, equipment and materials safely and securely to comply with statutory regulations.
• Maintain operational standards to the highest possible level in respect of service, hygiene, health and safety and ensure that there is minimal wastage. Assist in the production of budgets for the Department by providing accurate information.
• Develop, implement and maintain procedures to monitor energy costs and liaise with Central Office Purchasing to ensure that the most economical rates are obtained.
• Implement and manage the Brand Standard Maintenance Planner and develop it as statutory and critical business needs dictate.
• Ensure the profitability of the department, keeping stock levels, wages/costs and procure maintenance materials as well as external services at competitive rates, within budget, through forward planning and effective use.
• Agree, in consultation with the General Manager, levels of staff and competencies needed to provide the necessary skills to efficiently and effectively run the daily operation of the maintenance department.
• Develop, maintain and implement Induction Procedures for new members of the Team, in consultation with the People Development Manager.
• Ensure that Team Members are trained up to required quality standards in accordance with the principles of Investors in People, in compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy/Emergency Procedures and to meet statutory obligations.
• Carry out staff appraisal interviews at six monthly intervals in line with Company policy and ensure that issues raised and training needs identified are dealt with appropriately using Company and Unit guidelines.
• Carry out disciplinary, grievance and counseling procedures, where necessary, in conjunction with the People Development Manager and following Company guidelines
• Lead and motivate staff to encourage and obtain maximum commitment and efficient service.
• Maintain regular and effective briefing and de-briefing sessions with Team members.
• Develop good working relationships with external contractors.
• Welcome and facilitate business and organizational changes.
