Developed a general contractor and developer client base for the excavation division and established a general contracting division. Prepare estimates for commercial, public and residential projects; manage contracts, subcontracts and insurance. Provide mass grading, foundation excavation and general construction takeoffs. Manage the accounts receivable, cost tracking and office operations.
POTER CONSTRUCTION & DEVELOPMENT COMPANY July 1994 to November 2006
Hired as an estimator and within 1 year was promoted to chief estimator providing estimates for the renovation of state and federally funded low- to mid-income apartment buildings and scattered site housing ranging in size from 3- 4 Units to 144 Units. Assembled subcontractor database, prepared scopes of work, project manuals, selected and negotiated subcontractor buyouts, performed subcontractor contract review and managed change orders.
Promoted to Director of Operations in 4th year. Managed project managers, superintendents, customer service and field employees. The planning and development of in house projects including construction budgets, architectural design, coordination of architects, engineers and development staff, obtained building permits, prepared job schedules and tracked the schedules through delivery.
Self performed trades were demolition, carpentry, drywall, tile and painting. Workforce varied from 15 to 150 workers. Provided and enforced the health and safety policies for the company and enforcing safety procedures at all construction sites including safety inspections.
PYRAMID BUILDERS September 1989 to June 1994
Hired as an estimator and within 6 months was promoted to general manager for residential and light commercial construction including selling, bidding, estimating, setting specifications, ordering of materials, job scheduling and hiring, complete oversight and management of projects from start to finish, closings, punch list and customer satisfaction. Self performed trades were demolition, carpentry, roofing and painting. Work force varied from 6 to 50 workers.
EDWARD HINES LUMBER COMPANY June 1984 to September 1989
Hired as a yardman and was promoted to yard foreman within 1 year responsible for shipping and receiving, 4 yardmen and 2 truck drivers, yard inventory, yard equipment and equipment maintenance.
Promoted in 3rd year to outside sales for construction, industrial and remodeling projects. Customers were general contractors and developers. Provided field measurements of windows, doors, kitchen cabinets, millwork and hardware items. Prepared material take-offs from blueprints and sketches for rough lumber, millwork, windows and engineered roof and floor trusses. Performed collections, customer service and issuance of final waiver of lien.
