A 15 year EHS professional that has worked in several different industries with the opportunity to manage EHS programs for very large companies requiring oversight of several projects or facilities at one time is actively searching for a new position.
Having worked in EHS management for the last 9 years overseeing corporate safety programs; each one saw improvement in the various leading and trailing indicators for each respective company. WORK EXPERIENCE
EHS Manager for Division – Oldcastle Materials Southeast; 2004 to 10/2008
2 states; 3 area offices; EHS staff of 4; 350 employees
For 4 years; I was working to change a resistant paranoid culture that was supported by a difficult management team in AL which was fighting to remain as they had operated for the last twenty years. I saw a significant change in the employee’s safety culture and was stepping up the re-education of the management & supervisory team to develop a deep consistent safety message.
• Reduced Insurance Claims Cost from $1,000,000 per year in 2004 to $250,000 by 2006
• Completed 1.7 million hours worked with out a Lost Time case
• Receiving the Oldcastle/ APAC Eagle award for the first 1,000,000 hours with out a Lost Time case
• Company leader for the Kaizen 5S part of the Lean operation initiative (Gold Standard)
• Lead the Performance Leadership initiative for task & process improvement
• Company substance abuse testing program coordinator for the company over Urine collection and alcohol testing
• Organized the Environmental program including the development of SPCC & SWPPP at 14 plants and 3 maintenance facilities

Site Safety Manager - Shaw Stone & Webster 2003 to 2004
2 refinery facilities; EHS staff of 3-5; 200 employees
Over saw the EHS program for Shaw Stone & Webster’s contract to perform refinery maintenance. LOTO and Confined Space operations were daily on complete process units. This also included the oversight of the respiratory program including supplied air and the Industrial Hygiene monitoring for exposure to hazardous chemicals such as Benzene.
• Manage the EHS program for the Union maintenance activities at the refinery
• Over see extensive Respiratory protection program including the supplied air operations
• Administer the Workers compensation program for the location
• Complete EHS training along with Refinery emergency training for all employees
• Medical evaluation manager for respiratory exams and substance abuse testing
• Audit and assess workplace hazards of all work locations including Confined Space, LOTO, and Structural Steel activities
EHS Training Coordinator – Marathon Oil 2003
2 refineries; coordinated team of 4; 1000+ employees
EHS Consultant contracted to recreate the facility EHS&S training program at a major refinery by adapting the facilities safe operating procedures and the basic required EHS programs into a training program that also incorporated the basic regulatory requirements allowing the employees to have consistent training, repeatable testing results, and improve the effectiveness of training efforts of the refinery training coordinators and contractor’s EHS staff
• Met 6 week deadline with 250+ slide power point that was voiced over and transformed into a video presentation
• Hired by refinery through Shaw Stone & Webster to develop a standardized plant safety orientation to train contractor employees working at the Catlettsburg Marathon Refinery
• The new video training aid provided the basic requirements of the refinery and the safety industry to give a more uniform education of the Safety & Health requirements to the Union and Non Union employees while working in the refinery
Site Safety Manager – Fluor Constructors Inc. 2003
Multiple projects within refinery; EHS staff of 3; 150+ employees
Accepted a challenge to manage the EHS program at the Marathon Oil site when several Fluor Constructor Inc. projects were completed which ended the need for me in the corporate office as the Assistant EHS Director. While here the refinery was introduced to the Safety Task Assessment program that documents daily assessment & safety communication by supervision.
• Manage the safety activities at the Marathon Ashland Catlettsburg Refinery for Fluor Constructors.
• Act as the project point of contact for client safety representatives, Workers Compensation management, Fluor corporate safety, and other contractors for this site.
• Site EHS auditing for unsafe actions or behaviors to protect and educate Union employees
• Monitored union substance abuse program and directed medical testing as required
Asst. Director of Corporate EHS program Fluor Constructors Inc. 2000-2003
28 major projects; field staff of 55 EHS professionals; (20,000,000+ hours worked per year)
After working 9 months as a field safety supervisor, the safety director moved my family to the corporate office and began to assign projects to me for evaluation. Later, the job included analysis of project management and project organization. Using auditing, investigation & perception surveys to gather information, determinations and recommendations were reported to the president of FCI.
• On a major project dropped the frequency of recordable injuries from 4-6 per week to 1-2 per month
• Developed a safety culture perception survey to identify areas in need of attention by management
• Developed statistical evaluation program to rate projects on equal basis for management
• Consulted to PSE&G on the development of contractor EHS manual and implementation
• Evaluated and audited project locations for compliance to corporate EHS policies and programs
• Developed Safe Supervisor leadership development curriculum and conducted ppt on projects
• Coordination of safety staff assignment(s), Managed 55+ EHS professionals on 28 different projects
• Chaired a multi company committee for evaluation and development of crane operations
• Develop and provide safety development training of management supervision and EHS staff
• Represented the company in corporate safety responsibilities to parent company
Safety Supervisor Fluor Constructors Inc. 2000
Gas fired and steam turbine installation; over saw shift; 150 employees
The first job working with Fluor Constructors was to work on a gas turbine power generation plant project in OH. After 6 months the company sent me to IN to manage a power project that combined the gas fired turbines with a heat recovery, steam generation system to also turn a steam turbine.
• Coordinate the shift safety activities during the construction of power generation station as a field representative of the safety department
• Main duties included assessing work activities performed by the Union employees and preventing activities that pose potential harm to the employee or project.
Safety/Loss Control Engineer Underwriter Safety & Claims 1996 – 2000
Account investigator for over 300 multiple discipline industry accounts
While performing investigative services for underwriters, risk analysis reports were made on each account and potential client. Duties also included conducting investigations as to level of liability for serious accidents and fatalities. Seminars were conducted by us to educate accounts on safety regulations and best practices.
Regional Safety Coordinator Chempower 1994 – 1996
Oversaw three state region from the Winfield WV area office
Work for Chempower consisted of the EHS responsibilities for a regional warehouse with sales office, fitting manufacturing operation, engineering office, and reviewing work locations on industrial insulation projects. Asbestos removal was also an operation performed which required me to maintain the project designer designation to construct containments.
