Career Objective:
Seeking employment as an estimator and/or project manager where my extensive knowledge, experience, and success in mass grading, utility, paving, concrete flatwork, and structural concrete can be benefitted from.
Employment:
2008-2009 A&E Construction of Charleston, LLC
Hired to help start up a small business for a local Doctor interested in investing in the construction market. Selected and setup all computer programs, labor & equipment rates, and bid several private & public bids.
2002 – 2008: Landmark Construction Company N. Charleston, SC.
Began as an estimator for the then $20M/year company that had suffered losses in the previous several years. Assumed a role as a project manager after the first year to help overcome field management issues yet continued to estimate. In 2007 I was named the Sr. Project Manger overseeing other project managers while continuing to manage approximately 60% of the projects and estimating an average of $150M per year. Over the 6 years this company doubled in revenue and became profitable however the severe market impacts dictated cutbacks on nearly all employees with less than 15 years at the company.
2000– 2002: Koester Companies, Inc. Hwy 41N, Evansville, IN.
Vice President of Southeast Operations overseeing all marketing, estimating, and management for the southeast region based out of Chattanooga, TN. Projects for this division was strictly heavy civil/heavy highway ranging from up to $50M.
2000 Bolden Pipe Company Nashville, TN.
Hired to locate, estimate, and manage work for a new office in the Atlanta area. The company ran out of resources in their main office within a few months and is no longer in business under the same name or scope of work.
1995 -2000: Koester Companies, Inc. Hwy 41N, Evansville, IN.
Served as a Project Manager and Estimator for major projects with the focus on mass excavation performed under tight time constraints. Managed projects up to $32M and as many as 20 individual contracts at one time. During these years this company was in ENR’s top 400 Contractors under several categories.
1992 – 1995: Bernardin, Lochmueller & Associates. Evansville, IN.
Primary focus was on DOT and Highway work with projects up to $7M., several with bridges and one at 7 spans and numerous types.
College Education:
Lakeland College, Mattoon, IL. Graduated 2nd in my class in 1992 with an Architectural Degree with expanded studies in Civil Engineering.
Primary Education:
Neoga School District, Neoga IL., Graduated in 1977
Accomplishments:
1) In 16 years of managing construction there has only been one project I have bid and managed that has lost money.
2) All projects have come in on time including documented extensions.
3) AK Steel – Rockport Works. This project initially involved moving 3.5M CY in 3 months over 320 acres which was accomplished on time. Performance on this original scope resulted in a $250,000.00 bonus from the owner and nearly $21M in extra work over the next year. At its peak this project involved over 20 contracts and 2800 laborers on site at one time, all while the owner had started up the first processing building.
4) Nashville Superspeedway, Lebanon, TN. This was a rough grading package initially moving 4.5M CY of solid rock in 5 months time which was accomplished. The owner awarded an additional $9M in work over the original contract. At its peak this project had in excess of 280 operators/laborers.
5) Landmark was a struggling company when I was hired performing a little under $20M/year. Within 2 years of my start date they enjoyed over $40M/year and profitable projects. During the last 4 years I managed more than half of the projects and submitted 80% of the successful bids. During the last two years the trend with bidding and management continued but I also assumed the role of Sr. Project Manager.
