If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in,the Nuclear Operations & Radiation Analysis (NORA) group at Westinghouse has an exciting opportunity for a Nuclear Engineer to support its continued growth.
The NORA team is the industry leader for Startup Physics Testing of the operating fleet with solutions like Dynamic Rod Worth Measurements (DRWM) and Subcritical Physics Testing (SPT) but is also delivering the Vanadium Fixed Incore Instrumentation to new plants globally. The NORA team performs the neutron fluence, heating rates, and reactor dosimetry assessments for the operating fleets as well as neutron activation calculations for decontamination and decommissioning (D&D). The NORA group also calculates radiation source terms and shielding analyses to minimize radiation exposure and to validate equipment qualification. We use many state-of-the-art codes that were developed in-house including RAPTOR-M3G, our latest 3D discrete-ordinates tool. The in-house codes supplement our use of publically available nuclear codes (like MCNP, DOORS and SCALE packages) to meet the specific needs of our customer.
The combination of Nuclear Operations and Radiation Analysis provides unique career opportunities for someone interested in a mix of analytical and field work. The NORA group has supported the design, analysis and startup of PWRs since the early days of the commercial nuclear power industry. Its scope has expanded from the Westinghouse fleet to include the Combustion Engineering PWR fleet, the BWR fleet including operating BWRs, and finally culminating in the advanced Westinghouse AP1000 and eVinci designs. Our market is global with customers in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, covering both the operating fleet and new build. Occasional travel to industry meetings and/or to customer sites for short field work assignments may be required. This full-time opportunity is located at the Westinghouse Headquarters based in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.
Who You Are
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering Required
Minimum 3.0 GPA
NORAs technical areas are as follows and relevant experience is a plus:
Radiation transport with deterministic codes like DOORS package or equivalent
Neutron Fluence and Gamma-Ray Heat Generation Rate Analyses of PWRs and/or BWRs.
Reactor Dosimetry calculations for Surveillance Capsule and/or Ex-Vessel Neutron Dosimetry
AP1000 plant design and processes
Vanadium In-core Instrumentation System
In-core and Ex-core Nuclear Detectors and Core Monitoring System
BEACON or Core Power Distribution Monitoring
